Manchester Science Park (MSP) today announced their partnership with science park customer Protein Technologies to launch BioSpace, an initiative to provide laboratory space to early-stage Biotech and Medtech companies, as well as entrepreneurial scientists. MSP have called the BiOSpace an "unrestricted, pay-as-you-go access to state-of-the-art facilities and multi-million pound equipment."
Our commercial director spoke to the difficulties of accessing equipment when you are in the first stages of your research and development. One bit of kit can set you back thousands, if not more, and presents an insuperable barrier to SMEs and individuals. He described the collaboration as the first step in the construction of a "sharing economy" in Manchester as it continues its growth as the North West's hub of innovation and invention.
Thomas Renn, the Managing Director of MSP, said: “We’re passionate about supporting innovative businesses at every stage of their life cycle. The launch of this flexible new facility for very early-stage businesses is an important step. With reduced overheads, and the business support network afforded by the MSP community, entrepreneurs have access to an environment conducive to measured risk-taking and meaningful collaboration – both essential elements of a thriving knowledge economy."
As well as lab space and equipment, Lucid Innovations will be providing access to their workshop, machining tools, and expertise to assist with product design and prototyping.
